Hike: Birding 101

May 8, 2021 @ 8:30AM — 10:30AM Mountain Time (US & Canada)

Join GARNA for an outside introduction to Birding in the Upper Arkansas River Valley. Birding can be done from the car, by hikers and bikers, and by those who just want to have fun alongside serious birders who keep a life list of birds. Dominique will uncover the basics of birding, such as flight patterns, body and beak shape and function, bird sounds, guides and other resources, how to use binoculars, where to find birds, how to attract them to your yard, how we can conserve/provide bird habitat and how bird behavior can teach us about what’s going on in our neighborhood or ecosystem.

Join GARNA Executive Director Dominique Naccarato to learn about a fun hobby that you can do anytime and anywhere. We will taking the learning outside to see first hand birds in our communities. Dominique has been GARNA’s director for the past three years, but began learning about birding upon first working at GARNA in 2013, under the mentorship of GARNA Birding Club leaders Andrew Mackie, Denny Arter and Sally Waterhouse. Birding continues to teach GARNA’s Director to take a systems level view and to value a sit-spot for viewing birds and habitat.
